Thanks to your support, The Darkest House turned out to be everything we envisioned, and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s been received. (Among its many kudos are this review, and this really thoughtful one—and did you know it has a 4.9/5 on DriveThruRPG, extremely rare for a title with dozens of ratings?)
While we’re just as proud of The Darkest House’s groundbreaking format as we are of its content, there are thousands and thousands of gamers out there who are moving back into in-person gaming. Or who simply prefer a game product in the format of a good, old-fashioned hardcover book. So we’re going to give it to them. This fall, in time for the spooky Halloween season, we’re releasing The Darkest House as a hardcover book.
The Darkest House (book) will contain all the content from the app. It will weigh in at roughly 320 pages. You’ll be able to download all the sharable images, maps, and sound files. While the nature of the book format will never let it be as convenient as the app, we’re formatting it for maximum ease of use.
We’re sharing this with you—our backers—first, because you helped bring The Darkest House into our world. We also wanted to let you know that, in gratitude for your support, we’ll provide a method for backers to get the hardcover at a substantial discount—in case you, too, are moving your games back to the in-person tabletop.
We’ll have more details about the book in the months to come. For now, we just wanted you to be the first to know that it is coming!

Today we are fulfilling The Art of The Darkest House, a 110-page art book in PDF that explores imagery from The Darkest House and The Devoured Halls, complete with commentary from Monte Cook, the demiurgic creator of the House, and Bear Weiter, our fantastic Art Director. This is a reward for backers at the Exclusive: The Devoured Halls backer level, so if that’s you, we hope you enjoy it!

In this video, Monte "wanders through the house" (as he puts it) and shares some of his thinking on the various rooms as he designed them. He talks about the genesis of the house in his own campaigns, the sources that inspired him, and his favorite features and rooms. He might even reveal a few things you hadn't noticed in your own explorations. It's a meaty video that delves into the house at length. We hope you enjoy it!
