Graphics Unlocked! But the House Has Other Concerns...
about 3 years ago – Fri, Apr 02, 2021 at 03:47:07 AM

You have once again unlocked a stretch goal, and your games will now be graced by a suite of online graphics including backgrounds, wallpapers, and streaming frames.

But the house does not care about that. The house is hungry. It wants to grow. It wants you to feed it!

At $205,000, the house will grow once more. As it has before, it will form new rooms—or take them from the worlds it invades. It will gain roughly three new rooms, and The Devoured Halls will expand by at least one room as well.

Since our last stretch goal—less than 24 hours ago—numerous new conversations about the house have sprung up in our world. Here are just a few videos you might be interested in:

SHARE THESE VIDEOS on social media, or wherever gamers talk about games, to keep the momentum up. This campaign ends tomorrow evening—if we keep the buzz going, we can easily hit this goal, grow the house, and look at what comes next!

The House Has Grown Again! (Plus New Art!)
about 3 years ago – Thu, Apr 01, 2021 at 12:35:15 AM

Once again the house has grown. Your support has brought new rooms into being. This is perhaps fortunate for you, as your reward grows and you gain even more gameplay in the house. But it’s less fortunate for anyone who cherished those rooms in their own worlds. Especially if they were in them at the time.

What is next?

The Darkest House is, of course, optimized for gaming online. At $190,000 we’ll unlock a suite of items to dress up your online game. Things like a set of video backgrounds for games played on Zoom or similar platforms, frames and templates for streamed games, wallpapers, and so on.  Unlike most of our other goals, these digital files won’t be part of the product itself, but rather exclusive rewards for Kickstarter backers. They aren’t part of gameplay, but like the décor in your in-person game space, they’ll make your game just a bit more immersive, atmospheric, and fun.

We hit a stretch goal on Sunday, and another on Monday, and again yesterday. And we've hit one today—huzzah! Can we reach this one tomorrow? It seems likely, if buzz for The Darkest House remains strong.

Here are some things you might find useful and informative—and if you share them, they’ll help keep the conversation about The Darkest House going.

  •  In this video, Monte goes into some detail about how the House System works—in particular, the pernicious House die, through which your own actions cause the house to act. Link in the tweet—while you’re there, give it a like and a retweet!
  • Tonight Charles is being interviewed on Cypher Unlimited Live. Join the show and ask your questions! (Again, info in the retweetable tweet.)
  • Prefer a written format? Post your or comment question in this subreddit—and maybe share the link.

We have just over two days left in this campaign. Keeping the buzz going is how we draw new backers into the house, and hit new stretch goals!

Now, as promised in the update title, here's some art we're revealing for the very first time. We've also added new art to the Kickstarter page, so take a look there if you haven't done so recently!

The House Has Grown Again, but It Is Never Enough…
about 3 years ago – Wed, Mar 31, 2021 at 08:47:45 PM

The House that Hungers: that’s another name by which the Darkest House is known. Its appetite for your dreams and nightmares can never be stated. It has many rooms, but they are never enough for it.

Thanks to your support, the house has once again grown. It is bigger, home to more horror, and so is your reward for backing this campaign. The Devoured Halls have grown as well.

What you have accomplished, though, is not without cost. The house doesn’t just make rooms. It finds them and takes them. You have given the house new rooms, but your gain is someone’s loss. Those rooms have been stolen from someone, somewhere.

And it is never enough. The house’s hunger only gets stronger. It wishes to grow again. At $175,000 the house will expand even further. More rooms will appear within its bounds. And not just the house itself—The Devoured Halls will expand as well.

There are only four days left in this campaign. Four days to continue hitting stretch goals, to keep making the house bigger and better, and to keep growing The Devoured Halls, which are available only through this campaign.

Please keep the conversation going on reddit, Twitter, Facebook, and everywhere gamers talk about games. There are thousands of new victims—uh, backers out there, and only by reaching them can we make the most of the Darkest House!

Seminar Unlocked! Now the House Hungers Again!
about 3 years ago – Tue, Mar 30, 2021 at 02:55:08 AM

The house is full of unexpected truths. Few of them are as astonishing as your success in driving us to another stretch goal so quickly after we hit the last one!

The seminar with Monte is unlocked. Monte will share his secrets and best practices for making the most of your experience running The Darkest House. You'll get lots of tips and tricks for a game your players—for better or worse!—will never forget.

The house was quiet as we reached this goal, but it has felt the growing presence of more backers. It stirs. Its hunger reasserts itself. It wants more—it wants you to bring it more.

So at $160K, the house will grow again. As previously, it will add roughly three or four rooms. The Devoured Halls will also gain roughly one room. Should we hit this goal, the house will have grown by about 50% since this campaign launched—and The Devoured Halls by a similar margin. Your reward will have become 50% larger, at no additional cost. And it’s unlikely the house’s appetite will be sated, with many days left in this campaign…

Speaking of which, this is the final week. Once this week ends, so too does the chance of growing the house—or the The Devoured Halls. This is it: our final week for making The Darkest House as big and fantastic as it can be.

Buzz for The Darkest House continues to be strong—and the stronger we make it, the more stretch goals we’ll hit before the campaign comes to an end on Friday. Keep the momentum growing:

The house calls to you. It hates you, but it needs you. Heed it. Help it grow!

The House Has Grown—Twice More!
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 29, 2021 at 10:48:06 PM

The house has called to you. It is hungry; it wants to grow.

And you heard its call. You answered. You brought it new backers and new worlds. And the house has grown accordingly. Over the past several days we have hit not one but two stretch goals, and the house’s appetite has, for the moment at least, quieted.

If it sleeps, however briefly, perhaps it is wise that we should let it rest. So we’ll ignore its hunger for a while at least. At $150,000, we will add a video seminar to your rewards, led by Monte himself. GMing The Darkest House is, in many ways, much like running any horror game online. But there are many tricks and best practices for getting the absolute most out of it—for really immersing your players in the experience, and maximizing the impact on their characters and your campaign. With Monte’s insights, you’ll give your players an experience they’ll never forget!

Monte was recently interviewed by the fantastic folk at Cypher Unlimited. Here are a few snippets from that interview, and other bits and pieces, that give you a bit of a look at The Darkest House, how it works for the GM, how characters are converted to the House System, and so on. Hopefully you’ll find them interesting. They’re also great for sharing on social media anywhere gamers congregate online to talk about games.

By spreading the word, we reach more gamers and hit more stretch goals—and your rewards get better!

Here's Monte talking a bit about the process of converting characters to the House System.

And Monte talking about how we've optimized the experience for running games online, and how you can personalize The Darkest House experience for each player.

Here's Charles giving a quick tour of how it works from the GM’s side of the screen.

And don’t forget that the Kickstarter video itself is pretty sharable!
